Infrared Sauna in Annapolis, MD
Infrared sauna therapy delivers deep, penetrating heat that works directly on your body — promoting detoxification, muscle recovery, pain relief, and profound relaxation in a single 30-minute private session. At Meadow Hill Wellness, our JNH infrared sauna suite offers a completely private experience in a calm, therapeutic environment — the perfect complement to acupuncture, massage, or any other care you're receiving at our center.
How infrared sauna works
Traditional saunas heat the air around you, which heats your body indirectly. Infrared saunas work differently — infrared panels emit light waves that penetrate directly into your body's tissue, warming you from the inside out before warming the air around you.
As physical therapist Vivian Eisenstadt explains: "These saunas use infrared panels instead of conventional heat to easily penetrate human tissue, heating up your body before heating up the air."
The result is a deeper, more therapeutically effective heat at a lower, more comfortable ambient temperature — typically between 100°F and 140°F — making infrared sauna accessible even for clients who find traditional sauna heat overwhelming or uncomfortable.

Frequently asked questions about infrared sauna
How long is an infrared sauna session?
Sessions at Meadow Hill Wellness are 30 minutes — the clinically recommended duration for therapeutic benefit. First-time clients may want to begin at 15–20 minutes at a lower temperature and build up as their body adapts to the heat.
What temperature is the infrared sauna?
Our sauna operates between 100°F and 140°F. Most clients begin around 120°F and gradually increase as they become more accustomed to the heat. Unlike traditional saunas which often exceed 180°F, infrared sauna's lower ambient temperature is far more comfortable while still producing deep therapeutic effects.
How often should I use the infrared sauna?
For general wellness and relaxation, one to two sessions per week is an excellent starting point. For specific therapeutic goals — such as chronic pain management, detoxification support, or athletic recovery — two to four sessions per week typically produces the best results. Your provider can help you determine the right frequency for your goals.
Is infrared sauna safe?
Yes — infrared sauna is widely regarded as safe for most healthy adults. It is non-invasive, requires no medication, and produces no harmful side effects when used appropriately. We recommend consulting with your physician before use if you are pregnant, have a cardiovascular condition, or are managing a serious medical condition.
Can I use the sauna the same day as a massage or acupuncture appointment?
Yes — and many clients find this combination particularly effective. Infrared sauna before massage softens tissue and increases circulation, enhancing the depth of bodywork. Sauna after acupuncture can extend the relaxation response and support the treatment's effects. Let us know when booking and we can help you sequence your appointments for maximum benefit.
Is infrared sauna different from red light therapy?
Yes. Infrared sauna uses near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths to generate heat and penetrate tissue deeply. Red light therapy uses specific red and near-infrared wavelengths at low intensity without generating significant heat, and is primarily used for skin health and cellular repair. They are complementary but distinct therapies.
What should I bring to my sauna session?
We recommend arriving well hydrated. Wear minimal, loose clothing or a bathing suit — or use the towels provided. Avoid heavy meals immediately before your session. After your session, allow yourself time to cool down gradually and continue hydrating.
Can I add sauna to my existing appointment?
Yes — sauna can be booked as an add-on to massage, acupuncture, or other services at Meadow Hill Wellness. Contact us when booking or mention it at your next appointment and we'll build it into your visit.
